Waste Bill extends deadline for councils

Published: 21st September 2018

LGAQ CEO Greg Hallam wrote to the Committee after it responded to the LGAQ’s initial request granting a submission extension of a week for the Association.

He reinforced to the committee the significant impact the legislation would have on the sector.

“I am extremely concerned that this extension has not been extended to councils individually making submissions,” he wrote.

The Committee subsequently granted an extension on local government submissions until 26 Sep 2018, at 4pm.

In brief
  • Although councils may have already submitted under the original timeframes, those who did not now have until Wednesday, September 26th at 4pm to submit their feedback on the proposed legislation.
  • The LGAQ is continuing to call for council feedback to inform their submission on this critical issue.
  • The direct and indirect impacts on households, the proposed single criteria for the inclusion of councils in the waste levy zone and the proposed waste levy proceeds going to non-waste related activities are among the concerns raised by the LGAQ.
