More than 150 Queenslanders have been recognised in The King’s Birthday 2023 Honours List for their outstanding service across the science, health, public service, music and palaeontology sectors.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk congratulated the 157 Queensland honourees for their contributions and inspiring achievements which have positively impacted the lives of Queenslanders.
Ms Palaszczuk said, “In every corner of our great state there are Queenslanders doing amazing things, and today we have the chance to recognise some of that hard work on an international stage.
“To each of the 157 Queensland honourees in the King’s first Birthday Honours – congratulations.
“It is no small feat to be selected for such an esteemed list, so each recipient should be proud of their achievements.
“The 2023 cohort represent some of the best Queensland has to offer across the fields of healthcare, music, science and the public service.
“Our honourees now leave a lasting legacy for the people of Queensland and for generations to come.”
Here are all the representatives from Queensland local government to receive King’s Birthday Honours for 2023:
Member of the Order of Australia (AM) - Councillor Jennifer Lorraine HILL
For significant service to local government, and to the community of Townsville.
Current Mayor at Townsville City Council. Current LGAQ Board Member.
Member of the Order of Australia (AM) - Ms Angela TOPPIN
For significant service to local government, and to secondary education.
Current Mayor of Mareeba Shire Council.
Medal in the General Division (OAM)OAM – Mr David William CLIFTON
For service to local government, and to the community of Cairns.
Current Councillor at Tablelands Regional Council (since 2020).

For service to local government, and to the community of St George.

Served as Mayor of Taroom Shire Council 1997-2008. (Taroom amalgamated to become Western Downs Regional Council).

For significant service to the people and Parliament of Australia, to local government, and to the community of Northern Australia.
Councillor at Burdekin Shire Council (1979-90), then Minister for Regional Services, Territories and Local Government (1998–2001) and Minister for Fisheries, Forestry and Conservation (2001–2006) in the Howard government. He was defeated at the 2019 federal election, having been the longest-serving incumbent member of parliament for the final years of his career.
