QWRAP is an industry-led initiative to investigate regional collaboration on water and sewerage services in regional Queensland. Get to know this crucial initiative's Project Manager, Jennifer Hartwig.

Jen Hartwig

Hi, I’m Jennifer and I’m the LGAQ’s new Project Manager for the Queensland Water Regional Alliance Program (QWRAP).

Born in Maryborough and raised on the Sunshine Coast, I spent my childhood dabbling in creeks and waterways, camping, fishing and enjoying the great outdoors. I also enjoy baking, exploring op shops and country music. My interest in country music has led me to become a volunteer for the Gympie Country Music Muster each year.

I have 11 years of experience in the water industry in the fields of data science, research, water quality monitoring, field sampling and projects.

Prior to working in the water industry, I was employed in academic marine research, microbiology and laboratory management.

I have a Bachelor of Science (Microbiology and Biotechnology) with Honours in Marine Ecology.

I love seeing colleagues get excited when you help them solve a real-life problem! That’s the most satisfying part of the job; your work is not just filed away on a shelf or hiding in a journal article somewhere – it’s out there being used in the real world.

One of my career highlights was the development of an environmental monitoring program for compliance with environmental legislative and reporting obligations.

This program has improved data accessibility, uniformed sampling standards and reduced the risk of failing to meet environmental license obligations.

The water industry faces some significant challenges, especially in regional Queensland, and I’m excited to work for a collaborative program such as QWRAP.

So far at the LGAQ, my focus has been working on enhancing my knowledge of QWRAP and on how to best advocate and assist our members in my role as QWRAP Project Manager.

I have already met some of our members and I’m looking forward to meeting many more over the next few months and visiting in person across the regions.

In the meantime, you can reach me at Jennifer_Hartwig@lgaq.asn.au or 0427 678 596.
