A life-sized elephant statue will be unveiled in Blackall-Tambo on Australia Day in a special tribute to the western Queensland origins of one of Australia’s first travelling circuses.

The famous Perry Bros Circus started from Northampton Downs, near Blackall, in 1885, later assuming the promotional name of Eroni Brothers.

The statue has been donated by Mr Robert Perry, a descendant of the circus founder George Perry.

Mr Robert Perry will be present to officially unveil the statue at a free Australia Day breakfast in Banks Park, Shamrock Street, at 7am on Tuesday, January 26.

Mr Perry will also reveal the name of the statue which he chose after Blackall-Tambo Regional Council invited members of the public to submit suggestions.
