Nominations are now open for the seventh Alison Woolla Memorial Award for Local Leadership in Preventing Domestic and Family Violence (DFV).
This award honours the Legacy of Alison Woolla, the pioneering former Mayor of Aurukun Shire Council, who was a reform leader and a powerful advocate for those experiencing abuse in her community. Mayor Woolla went as far as opening her doors and inviting people experiencing Domestic and Family Violence to stay with her.
There are two categories for the award:
Category One: Specifically for local government—mayors, elected members, CEOs and council officers. This category recognises leadership in championing the prevention of domestic and family violence. Recipients will receive a trophy and a certificate of appreciation.
Category Two: For community-based individuals, acknowledging their contribution to supporting individuals and families escaping or experiencing domestic and family violence. Recipients in this category will receive a trophy, $5000 prize money and a certificate of acknowledgement.
We strongly encourage all councils to promote this opportunity within their communities to highlight the vital work being done in domestic and family violence prevention.
