Now released – Austroads guide for temporary traffic management
Austroads has released its new 10-Part Guide to Temporary Traffic Management (AGTTM) to improve the safety and efficiency of temporary traffic management on road worksites across Australia and New Zealand.
The area of traffic management is a key advocacy issue for the LGAQ; at this year’s annual conference a motion was moved seeking the LGAQ to lobby the State Government to:
- Change the current requirements in relation to the scope of Traffic Management Plans (TMP) required to be developed for roadworks on lower volume residential and rural roads; and
- Express concern at the proposed requirements if the Austroads Code of Practice for Temporary Traffic Management (CoPTTM) is adopted by DTMR as this will introduce further complexity and cost into the development of TMPs where little distinction is made between high volume multi-lane roads and lower volume roads
The LGAQ is working with councils and Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) to prepare a proposal for consideration by Austroads. A recent workshop session with representatives from Queensland local government and TMR delved into issues associated with the Austroads Code of Practice for Temporary Traffic Management. The proposal will centre upon creating 'sub-categories' to the Category 1 roads as defined in the Code.
The 10-Part Guide can be found here.
