New planning laws passed in response to COVID-19
In response to COVID-19, a range of urgent amendments to the Planning Act 2016 and the Economic Development Act 2012 were made last week.
These provisions commenced on 20 March 2020 following the Minister for Planning declaring an applicable event to respond to COVID-19, until 20 June 2020 inclusive.
On 20 March 2020, the Minister for Planning also declared certain uses under the event to enable these uses to operate 24-hour operations, seven days a week. For further detail regarding the amendments refer to the DSDMIP ‘Planning legislation amendment’ webpage.
