Mandatory Asbestos Training for Council Officers
This training is for council officers managing the administration and enforcement of the removal/disposal of domestic asbestos.
UPDATE: These are authorised officers appointed by the local government CEO under the Public Health Act 2005, section 377 and empowered to issue a public health order. The training is required under s. 454G Public Health Act 2005 as a condition of indemnity from civil liability.
All relevant council staff are required to complete this training as a condition of the State Government asbestos related indemnity for local governments.

At this stage, no dates have been scheduled beyond these workshops and although asbestos workshops are an ongoing State government commitment, they are only scheduled 2-3 times each year.
We encourage any authorised officers who have not completed the course to register their interest by Friday 28 February 2020. As each session can accommodate only 20-25 persons, enrolment of every applicant cannot be guaranteed.
The Queensland Government has scheduled two-day asbestos training workshops in:
- Brisbane 8-9 April 2020 (LGAQ House, Newstead)
- Noosa 15-16 April 2020, and
- Mackay 29-30 April 2020 (Mirani Old Board Room)
The course is not accredited but competency based and will be recognised throughout Queensland.
The workshops run from 8 am to 5 pm and are offered at no cost to councils (travel and accommodation expenses are not covered).
