National Road Safety Week 6-12 May

National Road Safety Week is an initiative of Safer Australian Highways and Roads (SARAH) Group, founded by President Peter Frazer following the tragic death of his daughter Sarah, who was killed in a roadside crash on the Hume Highway in 2012.

REMINDER: All councils were sent a joint letter from ALGA and SARAH group during March requesting advice on any planned activities by Friday 12 April, 2019. SEE sample letter

This year's theme builds recognition that everyone, individually and collectively, can be a leader for road safety – through our own behaviour, by serving as role models, by supporting those affected by road trauma, and by sharing the road safety message.

Each year, around 1200 people are killed and another 35,000 are seriously injured in crashes on Australian roads. National Road Safety Week (NRSW) is an annual event highlighting the ongoing impact of road trauma and encouraging all drivers to consider the consequences of their driving behaviour and drive so others survive.

This year's event coincides with the United Nations Global Road Safety Week 2019, which is the final Global Road Safety Week to be held within the UN Decade of Action on Road Safety 2011–2020.

How to participate

The NRSW team have provided a comprehensive factsheet with some great ideas on how your council can show your support, as well as some pre-prepared artwork files including a style guide, logos,  email signature, social media tiles and banners and a screensaver file.

VISIT the NRSW website for more information and to download the digital assets.

Federal election

An important part of the LGAQ's upcoming advocacy for the Federal election includes road safety as one of our key priorities for Queensland. Our campaign page is available on www.lgaq.asn.au/election2019 and road safety is in Better Local Infrastructure.
