Rural Water Guarantee
Queensland’s rural councils own and operate the water and sewerage delivery services that provide millions of Queenslanders with safe and reliable drinking water. These schemes were funded many decades ago from grants from State and Federal government and now are at the end of the life.
We are on the edge of an infrastructure cliff in many of our country towns and regional areas and they do not have the capacity to pay. Ensuring rural communities are not left behind and their communities are safe is of critical importance to the LGAQ. It is never truer as we face biggest the public health challenge of our time.
There is an urgent need for immediate funding support to support these councils to provide reliable and secure water & wastewater services to their communities.
Replacement dates are looming - and we must put this invisible challenge in the sights of funding partners.
