The LGAQ was pleased to support the inaugural ‘Reconciliation Takes Action’ breakfast held by Reconciliation Queensland on May 27 at Queensland Parliament to mark National Reconciliation Week.
The event was a shining example of how some of our nation’s most serious issues can be presented in a passionate, positive, powerful and persuasive manner.
Connecting with mayors, elders and local communities across the state, the event was live-streamed to seven local events around the state including Cooktown, Cairns, Tully, Townsville, Mount Isa, Mackay and Moranbah.
Master of Ceremonies for the morning, Uncle Bill Buchanan from the Management Committee of Reconciliation Queensland commended the LGAQ for the work we do with our councils—and, also caught up with the LGAQ delegation post-event to share the many ideas he has for working with councils, and the LGAQ, to create and support more action.
Uncle Bill praised, and thanked, Queensland councils for their ongoing commitment to Reconciliation actions and applauded the maturing relationships between local government, the State Government, corporates, community organisations and communities for the progress made on Reconciliation in Queensland over the past 15 years.
