Waste and recycling in the spotlight

Thursday, 14 November 2019

Waste and recycling has kept us all very busy over the last couple of years with issues from China Sword to the introduction of a waste levy and waste strategy, to a new container refund scheme and various funding opportunities.

Not only have the topics of waste and recycling been of high importance to our members, they have been key agenda items affecting all levels of government. Additionally, they have featured heavily in the media, generating a lot of discussion - and often debate - in our communities. As we navigate our way as leaders on the path to a zero waste future, there is still a lot of change to come.

With that in mind, and with National Recycling Week being celebrated this week, it seemed great timing to let you know that a brand new Waste and Recycling webpage is now live for you in the members' portal - LG Online.

The webpage has been developed to provide an easy-to-access, centralised and trusted source of information for our members across all 77 councils to access:

  • the latest news and media updates
  • interesting opinion articles
  • LGAQ submissions
  • videos and podcasts
  • event information and
  • links to other newsworthy information and various government and industry websites.

How you can participate

The webpage will constantly evolve and grow, and we will be seeking your input on future inclusions that you feel would add value to the webpage.

For example, we are keen to feature case studies highlighting excellence in local government waste management and resource recovery. So, if you have a story to tell (and hopefully some great images), please let us know and we can promote it on the webpage.

To ensure all members get the most they can from this new resource to help with their roles, we ask that you take every opportunity to share the link with your colleagues (LG Online membership is available to ALL Queensland council staff and elected members).

Accessing the new webpage

If you experience any difficulties accessing the website or creating an LG Online account, please don't hesitate to contact the Member Services Team on 1300 542 700.

Let us know your thoughts!

Please email Robert Ferguson, Lead - Public Health and Waste if you require any further information about the webpage, would like to provide feedback or have suggestions for additional content/functionality to be included on the webpage.
