Cairns First Mayor was the grandfather of Charles Kingsford Smith
Richard Ash Kingsford was born in Canterbury, England on the 4th of October 1821.
He was Chairman of Cairns Divisional Board 1885-86, and elected in 1889 Cairns Municipal Council. He also was a member of the Legislative Assembly in the Queensland Colonial Parliament.
He was elected Mayor of Brisbane in 1876, Kingsford was also a draper and sugar planter. Kingsford Street in Mooroobool is named in his honour. He died in Cairns on January 2nd 1902.
He was also the Grandfather of Charles Kingsford Smith.
