Drought affects entire communities
As discussion shifts at a State and Federal level to focus on drought preparedness and resilience, councils are calling for new look policies which mitigate population drain on local economies, as well as better resource local government to lead their communities in preparing for drought.

45 councils drought declared
At the start of 2020, 45 of Queensland’s 77 councils were drought declared – representing two thirds of the state’s total land area.
Drought Action Plan
The eight recommendations of the LGAQ’s Drought Action Plan would see all partners working together to empower our communities and businesses to better plan for, respond and adapt to drought.
New policy approach
The recommendations include a new look policy approach with locals at its heart, better help for communities currently in drought and better support for communities through future droughts.
