“Every day” council heroes hailed in new campaign

The critical “every day” role of Queensland councils is celebrated in a new campaign launched by the state’s peak local government body.

Councils are your every day, designed with and for Queensland's 77 local councils, is now rolling out statewide through social media, digital channels, and outdoor advertising.

A central feature of the campaign is a colourful video featuring authentic footage of councils throughout the state, delivering key works, services and events for local residents.

“Councils are the tier of government closest to our lives,” Local Government Association of Queensland (LGAQ) President Mayor Matt Burnett said.

“They make today happen, while planning for tomorrow, and we want to ensure all Queenslanders are aware of the crucial role they play in our communities.

“Councils’ contribution is visible through services like looking after our parks, playgrounds, community centres and libraries, as well as on-the-ground support during and after disasters.

“It’s also in the work that is less visible, like local roads, traffic, waste management, pest mitigation and infrastructure planning.

“When you look around you, you’ll be sure to see at least one every day thing that’s being delivered by a local council.”

LGAQ research reveals that while councils remain the most trusted level of government, many people aren’t clear on which tier of government delivers which services.

“While councils’ everyday work is visible, their important and behind-the-scenes services often go unnoticed,” LGAQ CEO Alison Smith said.

“That’s why the LGAQ is partnering with councils across Queensland to bring both the visible and invisible work into focus.

“Councils are with you, for you, every day - and when vital gaps appear, it’s councils that step in to meet everyday community needs.”
