Commonwealth bridges renewal program opens

Round Four of the Bridges Renewal program has opened, and the turnaround for councils to apply is tight.

Applications for the $80 million national funding pool close at midnight February 5th, AEST.

Fast facts

  • Round four of the fund is $80 million nationally until 2022-23.
  • This time around, the fund is only open to local governments. This last occurred in 2016.
  • It’s based on a 50:50 funding arrangement – the Australian Government will contribute up to 50 per cent of the total project cost of successful projects, up to a maximum of $700,000 for one bridge or $1.4 million for two bridges in a single local government area.
  • Round Three’s successful projects can be found here. The Government contribution was capped at $5 million per project so it could distribute the funding to more projects.
