Community Wellbeing Indicators Project
The LGAQ Community Wellbeing Indicators Project will result in an enhanced capacity of Queensland councils to measure, plan for and report on the wellbeing of their communities. See the Project Summary for an overview of the project.

10-year plan for supporting Queenslanders with a disability
The draft 10-year plan being developed by the Department of Communities is in response to what people with a disability and those who advocate for them have been saying for a long time. Link to full article.
 

New Strategy for Reducing Homelessness to be launched by Minister carruthers Thursday 28 July.
The LGAQ is a member of the Department of Communities Queensland Intersectoral Homelessness Forum. The Queensland Government is developing a 10 year Strategy for Reducing Homelessness. The Strategy is to be released on 28 July at parliament house. A rigorous consultation has been held with forums held in many cities and towns.  Link to full article.

Review of Queensland’s Prostitution Act: overview
The Crime and Misconduct Commission (CMC) tabled its report Regulating prostitution: a follow up review of the Prostitution Act 1999 in state parliament on 29 June 2011.
The CMC has been reviewing the Prostitution Act 1992 as required under section 141 of the Act and invited LGAQ to make a submission to the review. We chose to encourage the councils with legal brothels in their areas to respond directly to the CMC. The councils involved are Brisbane, Gold Coast, Logan, Sunshine Coast, Moreton Bay, Townsville, Mackay, Cairns and Mt Isa. Social Housing
Social housing is secure and affordable rental housing for low to moderate income families and individuals, in particular those who have difficulties accessing housing in the private market. Social housing programs are administered by the Department of Communities. Link to full article.

Department of Communities – New funding legislation
The Department of Communities is proposing the One Funding System for Better Services Bill 2011 aimed at introducing a single, streamlined set of laws for providing Queensland government funding to external entities such as local government and non-government organisations.
