The public liability insurance crisis has had an enormous impact on voluntary community groups. Competitive forces in the insurance market all but disappeared and prices increased significantly. In response to that impact, Jardine Lloyd Thompson in conjunction with the LGAQ and interstate local government associations developed Local Community Insurance Services.

The objective is to provide community groups with another  insurance option and restore a more competitive market. Local Community Insurance Services also provides groups with a range of advice on insurance products and assistance with risk management processes.
