Local government welcomes new Minister

The Local Government Association of Queensland has welcomed the appointment of Ferny Grove MP Mark Furner as the Minister for Local Government and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships and paid tribute to Deputy Premier Jackie Trad’s work in the local government portfolio.

LGAQ President Sunshine Coast Mayor Mark Jamieson said he looked forward to working with Mr Furner to ensure the strong partnership between the Palaszczuk Government and local councils continued to flourish.

Mayor Jamieson said the LGAQ and councils also looked forward to continuing their relationship with Ms Trad, given she has retained responsibility for planning and infrastructure as well as taking responsibility for the transport portfolio.

'Local councils have demonstrated their understanding of where this Government wants to take the State and we are enthusiastic about partnering with the Premier and her Cabinet team to ensure Queensland goes from strength to strength,’ he said.

'I congratulate both Mark and Jackie on their new responsibilities and wish them well,' he said.
