Council staff and transport officials from across the country will gather in Brisbane next week for the inaugural Local Government Heavy Vehicle Forum.

Hosted by the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator, in partnership with the Local Government Association of Queensland and Local Government New South Wales, the event focuses on the roles of councils under the Heavy Vehicle National Law.

The forum aims to:

  • inform councils of opportunities under the Heavy Vehicle National Law and what the NHVR is doing to assist councils;
  • showcase examples of how local governments are using provisions under the HVNL to reduce red tape and boost their economies;
  • encourage sharing of experiences among council representatives to find solutions to address their unique freight challenges; and
  • help each council to identify priority actions to advance improvements in freight productivity and safety in their council area/region.

Elected representatives, senior council staff and technical officers are invited to attend.

The forum will be held at the NHVR's premises at level 3, Gasworks, 76 Skyring Terrace, Newstead.

There is no cost to attend.

Should you wish to attend the forum, please provide your RSVP to Liz Reynolds at or 3309 8669.

Space is limited to 120 people.

Should you have any questions regarding the forum, please contact either Scott Britton, LGAQ Principal Advisor – Roads Transport and Infrastructure or Robert Chow, LGAQ Heavy Vehicle Access Liaison Officer on 1300 542 700.
